Installing GetIt!
Before installing GetIt! , you must install Mozilla Firefox. If you have already have Firefox Installed you can move to Step 2 Install the GetIt button. The last step is testing the GetIt Button, Step 3. The instructions provide a sample search that is known to work.
Install the GetIt button
You must have the web browser Firefox installed to proceed.
- Create a folder within your Program Files folder for the GetIt plugin.
- Click on My Computer
- Click on Program Files
- Click on Make a New Folder and name it GetIt
- Using Firefox, go to the GetIt! webpage
- Right click on Download the Getit PlugIn for Firefox.
- Select the option Save Link As…
- Save the File in the Directory you just created within your Program Files Folder.
- Select the File Menu Option in the upperleft corner of Firefox.
- Select Open File.
- Select and open the GetIt.xpi file that you just saved.
- Click Install Now
- Click Restart Firefox
Testing the Installation
- Go to Amazon.com
- Search for Moby Dick Modern Library in Books.
- Select the Item – Moby Dick or the Whale
- Enter CtrlShiftE
- A box will appear with a list of locations that hold this book.
Sometimes this box is hidden behind the Amazon page. Minimize
the Amazon entry to see if it is there.
- Select Open WorldCat by clicking on its entry
- Open WorldCat entry will appear
- You can return to the GetIt results and select another option.
- Select Barnes and Noble to see their purchase options
